I have delayed this blog post for too long, but I finally have time to share my birthday dinner experience with you all. For the past years, I chose a different restaurant to go to, somewhere that has been on my to-go list for the longest time. There is no exception for this year, and we decided to choose a restaurant that is known for its authentic French cuisine – Les Faux Bourgeois.
We were seated near the window, so the ambiance is quite romantic. We then ordered a red and a white to start off. I prefer a fruity wine, so the waiter recommended me a white wine, Sychromesh, and I was surprised that he brought me some to try first. I am not an expert in tasting wine, so I can just say that it is fruity enough to a point that I like it! As for the red wine, we ordered Chateau La Gorce – way drier than the white, but he likes it that way.
As for the appetizers, we ordered Tarte Flambée Alsacienne and Escargots de Bourgogne.
This is my first time trying French cuisine, so I did not know what to expect. I found most of the dishes are heavy, as they add a lot of cheese, butter, cream, and sauce in their dishes. This first appetizer makes me WOAHHH! It looks heavy, it tastes heavy, but it is just WOAHH! There is the crisp from the bacon and pastry, but the cheese and onion add a chewy-like texture to it. It is like a pizza, but better and fancier!
I always think that escargots are usually served in a hot pan, kinda flavorless to me. However, this dish changes my thoughts about it. The portion is amazing for the price I am paying. And when they are served in a mini bowl, all seasoning is more absorbed by the escargots. I can scoop as much garlic butter on the crostini as I wish!
We each ordered a main: Canard Confit and Filet de Bouef Grillé w/ Red Wine Shallot Jus.
The duck is super tender. When you do not need a knife to cut through the meat, you can be certain that the meat is just so soft! I love the sweetness of the sauce, which makes the dish less heavy. The goat cheese is slightly melted on the goat salad. It tastes unique, however, I found it too heavy at the end.
The presentation of the dish is very different than I expected. I was expecting a steak-like kind of dish, but this tastes fabulous. Though I cannot really tell which is which (whoops), because the vegetables mixed with the meat. But when you have a bit of everything with a dip of the sauce, it just blends very well.
We did not order any desserts, because we were too full after all the food. However, I did find many customers come into the restaurant just asking for the desserts, so I will return to try the “infamous” desserts!
