Yama Cafe is my all time favourites for mochi muffins and matcha lattes with unique latte art. It is a cozy Japanese cafe, which serves breakfast and lunch sets, sweet treats, and a wide selection of beverages. Feel free to read my previous blog post about Yama Cafe. Yama Cafe also offers a lunch set special, Sashimi Teishoku occasionally. On December 28 and 29, you can enjoy this year’s last sashimi teishoku. Keep reading to see what’s included in this Japanese set meal.
Teishoku is a type of Japanese set meal, and few weeks ago, I got curious and decided to try the Sashimi Teishoku. Depends on the availability of the fish, the set meal includes 5-8 kinds of sashimi. The one I had recently includes 8 kinds of sashimi – Sockeye Salmon, Yellow Tail, Bluefin Tuna, Albacore Tuna, Mackerel, Salmon Roe, Squid, and Spot Prawn. It also comes with your choice of white rice, salad (+$1), or 8 grain rice (+$1), a bowl of miso soup, nukazuke (Japanese preserved vegetables), 1 moffin, and 1 cookie. The Sashimi Teishoku is $24.95.
When it arrives, I am surprised by its portion. I assumed that it has 8 slices of sashimi, but there are at least 2 slices or more for each kind of fish. None of them is fishy, including the mackerel and the salmon roe. I am certain that you won’t be able to get the same portion and quality for $24.95 anywhere else in Vancouver.
I am surprised and impressed by the quality and freshness of the sashimi in this Japanese set meal. It might not be a normal type of lunch, with a higher price range. However, I would highly recommend trying the Sashimi Teishoku, because trust me, it is totally worth it! I ordered this set meal to share with Mr., along with two cups of matcha latte. We are both satisfied and full. Other items that I also recommend is the Moffins, Strawberry Shortcake, and Matcha Latte.
