I was researching on brunch spots in Vancouver, and I found that Mak N Ming is relaunching their annual Summer Sunday Brunch, starting May 19. This is the 3rd season, and I missed the last two. Mak N Ming is located in Kitsilano, just blocks away from the Kitsilano Beach. They highlight Japanese-meets-French cuisine. It was hectic last week because BETA 5 collaborated with Amy from Constellation Inspiration and launched three feature cream puffs. These three new flavors made most Vancouverites go crazy on pre-orders and lineups, just to get their hands on them. But one question always pops up – are they worth the hype? Macarons are one of the most delicate and difficult desserts to master, and I have failed quite a few times and still wasn’t successful until recently. I got invited to a macaron making class from Bon Macaron Patisserie, and I really enjoyed the overall experience of learning how to make macarons while connecting with other influencers.(more…)
I have delayed this blog post for too long, but I finally have time to share my birthday dinner experience with you all. For the past years, I chose a different restaurant to go to, somewhere that has been on my to-go list for the longest time. There is no exception for this year, and we decided to choose a restaurant that is known for its authentic French cuisine – Les Faux Bourgeois.
When anyone asked about Japanese-French fusion, I immediately thought of Pidgin, but now there is a new restaurant on this recommendation list – Restaurant Yugo. The restaurant uses the simplest decor and lighting. Inside, you can see a marble sushi bar table, where you can have more interactions with the owner and the chef. This is definitely one of the hidden gems in West End.
To me, excellent service always comes first, before anything else, including food quality. And in here, I love how the owner and the chef patiently introduce each dish’s details to each of their customers. You may think I am exaggerating, but you can definitely see that passion from that smile. In addition, they serve the most unique dishes with some of the best ingredients I have tried. (more…)
