David H. Chow is an infamous pastry chef and more importantly, a chocolatier in Toronto. One of the most popular products would probably be the photogenic BONBONS. It is different from regular chocolate, because they are handcrafted with love and care. Each piece is unique, and they often have various layers of flavors. Chocolatiers will use their creativity and bring surprises into each piece. That’s why, I am very obsessed with bonbons. So I have begged my friend, who was going to visit her boyfriend in Toronto, to bring me a box of those mysterious and beautiful bonbons as souvenir. Continue reading “David H. Mille crêpe cake seems to be the current dessert trend in Vancouver. Recently, there are three stores, with similar concept, caught my attention – L’OTUS Cake Boutique, Sugar Lab, and Miss Lina Crêpe Cake. Therefore, my friends and I plan to go for a crêpe cakes hunt to see which one is the best. And first location would be L’OTUS Cake Boutique.
It is a famous dessert cafe in Richmond. They are known for the freshly made mille crêpe cake, as well as serving tea espresso-based beverages. I previously went there for 3 times, and they were sold out of cakes. So this time, we reserved a table of four and some cakes to start off. We went there around 3pm on a weekday, so most of the flavors were still in stock. And we ordered four flavors in total – Fresh Strawberry, Blue Earl Grey, 64% Dark Chocolate , and Black Sesame. When anyone asked about Japanese-French fusion, I immediately thought of Pidgin, but now there is a new restaurant on this recommendation list – Restaurant Yugo. The restaurant uses the simplest decor and lighting. Inside, you can see a marble sushi bar table, where you can have more interactions with the owner and the chef. This is definitely one of the hidden gem in West End.
To me, excellent service always comes first, before anything else, including food quality. And in here, I love how the owner and the chef patiently introduce each dish’s details to each of their customers. You may think I am exaggerating, but you can definitely see that passion from that smile. In addition, they serve the most unique dishes with some of the best ingredients I have tried. Located on the same block as Sushi by Yuji, Cafe Xu Hue is probably one of the most recommended Vietnamese restaurant in this neighborhood. A lot of foodie friends said that it is famous for the Bún bò Huế.
What is Bún bò Huế?
I did some research on this, because to be honest, I do not know what it was until I entered the restaurant. So, bún means rice vermicelli, and bò means beef. This famous dish is originated from Huế , which was the former capital located in Central Vietnam. The soup base usually contains a great balance in spicy, sour, salty, and sweet flavor. What is better than a cup of latte? A photogenic latte with beautiful latte art. Richmond recently opens a cafe, Zenstone Coffee. And they are famous for their latte art and specialty coffees, such as Purple Yam Latte and Citrus Black Sesame Latte.
Richmond is an area that lacks of cafe, or just anywhere to sit down and chill with friends. Instead, we mostly hang out in pools and dart places. This simple café just makes me want to go to Richmond more now! When I first walked in, it gives me a very peaceful feeling. It is bright and quiet, which is definitely a very nice place for me to study or to write my blog. Continue reading “Zenstone Coffee”
