Eating tang yuan is what I considered the most important event during Chinese New Year Eve. Last year, I created the Matcha Tang Yuan, which I heard a lot of good feedback from. This year, I want to elevate its appearance and flavors. So I made these Crystal Tang Yuan with Lava Filling, including purple yam, jasmine osmanthus, and oolong brown sugar. Its main ingredient is tapioca starch, and I included some tips and tricks to prevent failures on your first trial.

Snow Skin Mooncakes with Shredded Coconut & Purple Yam Lava

Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up soon, and it becomes a tradition for me to make mooncakes since two years ago. This year, I upgraded my recipe for making Snow Skin Mooncakes, so the skin will still be chewy and mochi-like even after 3-4 days in the freezer. In terms of the filling, I am making a simple shredded coconut paste with purple yam lava.

2-Ingredient Purple Yam Pearls (Ube Pearls)

After 3 weeks, I decided to get my hands on pearls. Though I have been ordering delivery service occasionally to satisfy my bubble tea crave, it is different to make pearls by hand. Unlike brown sugar pearls, Purple Yam Pearls (or Ube Pearls) is definitely a healthier and easier version. I enjoy pairing the pearls with milk, with fresh purple yam bits. As mentioned, this is a 100% successful recipe and family-friendly. For me, I just made them while watching TVB at night.

Lady M-Style Purple Yam Mille Crepe Cake

Spirtea in Richmond is recently selling Mille crepe cake from Lady M, and it is priced at $19.50 per slice. It is definitely a luxurious and unaffordable treat for me, so I decided to make my own version. I did some research on how to master the perfectly thin slice of crepe. After failing twice, I finally created my masterpiece, Lady R Mille Crepe Cake! Here I am sharing all tips I learned during the process.
